Description:

As the world’s focus shifts toward STEM, it has become increasingly essential to educate young people about the importance of engineering and its impact. Therefore, there is a priority for equitable distribution of K-12 STEM education in order to:

  1. Ensure a more innovative and prosperous economy
  2. Increase the number and diversity of students in underrepresented fields such as Aerospace

___________

In order to address this need, we have developed a virtual open access activity to easily translate aerospace to students concepts regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or prior experience.

Our activity, Space (Traffic) Jam!, provides an introduction to the complexities of Space Traffic Management by creating an analogy comparing a space map of satellites to a roadmap of cars. The goal is to encourage students to draw correlations to fields they previously viewed as unrelated to aerospace.
